Welcome Home to Hotel Flora!

Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming a loyal community of guests and forging many wonderful friendships along the way. It’s something we are both proud of and deeply grateful for. Equally, we take pride in being an independent hotel – an alternative to the expected. A home away from home.

Hotel Flora opened its doors in 1993 in the pink house by Grönsakstorget in Gothenburg, and I can wholeheartedly agree with the saying: time flies when you’re having fun. For over 30 years, I’ve lived alongside Hotel Flora, a life filled with encounters, stories, and memories. This building has a history that stretches back even further.

For around 135 years, people have gathered here, celebrated, and created memories. At the turn of the century, there was said to be a tavern where our restaurant, Södra Larm Bar & Bistro, is now located. Meanwhile, a fish shop stood facing Grönsakstorget, but the sunny location made it difficult to keep the ice, on which the fish rested, from melting. From 1965 to the mid-1980s, the student association Smålands Nation occupied the building.

My journey with this house began with an empty office space, beautifully situated by Vallgraven, with views of Kungsparken and Floras Kulle. It became the starting point for a small hotel where personal care would always take center stage. The office space was transformed into 16 rooms, featuring the charming amenities of the time: shared showers and toilets in the corridor, with washbasins in each room.

My daughter Stéphanie, then four years old, inspired the hotel’s very first logo, and a discreet sign above the entrance was put in place.

Over the years, Hotel Flora has grown, but what truly makes us unique is our amazing staff, who ensure every guest feels welcome and cared for. Their passion, warmth, and professionalism make Flora the special place it is.

Today, we are proud to offer 71 uniquely decorated rooms, our restaurant Södra Larm Bar & Bistro, and Flora Workspace.

But most importantly, we remain true to our core idea: every guest should feel at home.
